Similar in outline to turbot but noticeably slimmer and smoother-skinned, with fine speckled mottling rather than turbot's bony studded texture.
Facts
- Often confused with turbot, but brill is more oval and slender, and its skin is smooth rather than studded.
- Shares much the same sandy-ground habitat and ambush-feeding style as turbot.
- Considered an excellent table fish, though generally caught less often than turbot from UK shores.
