Tactics

The south-facing beach fishes best for bass just after a blow from the SE to SSW quadrant, which washes in slipper limpet beds the bass follow in close. Away from a blow, plaice, turbot and brill respond well to sandeel or worm fished over clean sand in summer. The entrance to Langstone Harbour at the western end holds a bigger variety - mullet, bream, garfish and scad - through the warmer months.

Best tide: Flood tide, especially after onshore winds · Best time: Summer for the main species mix; after a blow for bass
