Family

Established resort facilities and easier access.

Fishing

Whitley Bay is strongest in autumn and winter for codling, coalfish and whiting, with flounder available across much of the year and occasional summer bass. The Panama area near the swimming club and the Half Moon Rocks/Skeers are documented low-water options. Peeler crab, lugworm, ragworm and mussel are established baits; heavy weed can make the rockier areas difficult after rough weather.

Species reported: Codling, Coalfish, Whiting, Flounder, Bass

Crabbing

not verified for line crabbing — Rock pools and skeers may contain marine life, but no protected family line-crabbing venue was verified.

Access & parking

Use the established signed beach access from the named settlement or coastal car park; check tide and temporary safety notices.
