Tactics

Crabbing off the quay wall is the reliable, family-proof option — a baited line and a drop net works for anyone. For rod fishing, walk out along the channel toward the beach and fish the harbour mouth as the tide floods in; bass follow the bait fish up the gut. On the open beach, low water on a big spring tide is best for flounder on lug or peeler.

Dogs

There is no North Norfolk District Council PSPO for Wells beach — it doesn't appear on the council's list of 9 seasonally-restricted beaches. The real rule, set by the Holkham Estate (which owns the beach), is a permanent dog-free zone for the first 200 yards from the main entrance only (the pinewoods/steps entrances are unaffected), plus a request — not a legal requirement — to keep dogs on leads near the nature reserve during the nesting season.
