Sharrow

A small sandy-and-rocky cove (also known locally as Grotto Beach) at Tregonhawke on the Whitsand Bay coastline, reached down a steep cliff path — one of several linked coves along this Rame Peninsula bay, RNLI lifeguarded in season.

Water quality: Excellent

Lifeguard: Early May to end of September (RNLI, flag-patrolled — only swim when flags are flying)

Hazards: Splits into separate coves at high tide, cutting off return routes along the shore; can have significant swell exposed to the open Channel. Check tide times before walking the shoreline.

Family

Attractive small cove but access is via a steep cliff path and steps, and at high tide it splits into isolated pockets of sand — better for confident walkers than pushchairs or very young children.

Fishing

Sharrow is part of Whitsand Bay's surf system, with bass, small-eyed ray, dogfish and flatfish over sand and pollack, wrasse and summer pelagics around Sharrow Point reef patches.
