Porthleven Sands

The main sandy beach stretching east from Porthleven harbour, backed by a steep shingle shelf and famous for dangerous swimming conditions toward Loe Bar.

Family

Good facilities near the harbour, but the beach itself shelves steeply and swimming is actively discouraged, especially toward the notorious Loe Bar.

Fishing

Porthleven beach is a steep, energetic surf mark for bass, dogfish, small-eyed ray, whiting and occasional flatfish. Rougher structure near the harbour and eastern rocks can hold pollack, wrasse, pouting and conger, but swell and backwash are major constraints.
