Fishing at Cullercoats Bay
A small, sheltered horseshoe bay between Whitley Bay and Tynemouth that fishes well for mixed line species off the harbour piers and the surrounding rocks — a good option when the open coast is blown out.

| Species | Season | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Flatfish (Mixed / Unspecified) | Spring–Autumn | Light leger tackle over the sandy bay bottom |
| Codling (Juvenile Cod) | Autumn–Winter | Bottom fished worm/crab off the harbour rocks |
| Bass | Jun–Sep | Lures or bait worked around the harbour entrance |
Tactics
The bay is sheltered by its piers so it's a reliable back-up when the open coast is too rough. Fish light leger gear over sand for flatfish through the warmer months, and switch to worm and crab baits fished harder up against the rocks for codling once autumn arrives. The harbour walls themselves give a bit of depth close in, useful over high water.
Best tide: Around high water · Best time: Autumn and winter for codling; spring/summer for flatfish and bass
